Care Guide: How to Fix Earrings

Here are some dainty earring fixes you need to know about! Whether you're dealing with a loose post, a lost backing, or a tarnished finish, we've got you covered with simple, effective solutions.

Black Earring Posts

CAUSE : Fine metals naturally oxidizes with the moisture in your ear combined with oxygen. Especially for sterling silver or gold vermeil earrings. This means that you need to periodically clean them.

TO FIX : A quick solution is to use jewelry cleaning cloths, but be sure to not over do it. Don’t go over 10 strokes as it may wear off the plating for gold earrings

How to Fix Loose Studs

CAUSE : The butterfly backs for earring posts may become loose with everyday wear.

TO FIX : With your fingers, gently squeeze the two circle metal back parts together. The circles will then close together and make the grip on your earring post tight again.

Its always beneficial to have some back ups.

Another option is to purchase silicone backs, which are more secure and have more grip. It’s also much more comfortable for those who wear their earrings to sleep.

How to Fix Loose Huggies

CAUSE : With everyday wear, the closure may become loose. Fine metals are softer and more flexible than cheaper metals are. So you can easily re-adjust the post to close securely.

TO FIX : STEP 1: Find where the dip on your post is (either top or bottom). If your dip is on top, you will push upward (VERY SLIGHTLY) and then close to see if it 'clicks'. Repeat until you hear the 'click'.

**The RED HIGHLIGHTED AREA is where the back slot and the dip of the post should meet.**
