How to: Clean and Care For Your Jewelry

All jewelry requires a little care and attention to keep it looking at its best. It is the way metals interact with the environment that may cause a jewelry piece to oxidize(turn colors). It is essential to emphasize that oxidation is not a manufacturing defect. We conduct thorough testing on every jewelry piece to confirm that it meets our standards.

Sulphur and oxygen is the primary cause of gold vermeil/rose gold vermeil/sterling silver jewelry tarnish. Some areas have naturally elevated levels such as areas with high levels of heat & humidity, traffic (exhaust gas) or heavy industry (air pollution).

Golden Rules to follow

To keep your jewelry looking it's best follow these golden rules:

1. Remove your jewelry when showering (chemicals in your shampoo/conditioner), exercising (your body's salt compounds) and swimming (chlorine is the worst for your jewelry!).

2. Allow perfumes and lotions to dry before wearing.

How to Store your jewelry

1) Remove any price tags/labels or tissue paper these can be surprisingly problematic. Some paper emits sulphur, and can also be acidic.

2) Store inside a sealed polyethylene (LDPE) plastic bag. Squeeze out air from inside the bag as possible before it is sealed.

How to Clean your Jewelry

Fine metals naturally oxidizes with the moisturecombined with oxygen This means that you need to periodically clean them.

A quick solution is to use jewelry cleaning cloths, but be sure to not over do it. Don’t go over 10 strokes as it may wear off the plating for gold vermeil jewelry.

Another option is to use baking soda, dish detergent and water. Combine in a small bowl and soak your earrings for 3 hours, then rinse with water and wipe off with a microfiber cloth.
